8Receipt Hog is an Android & IOS App that can make you money by taking pictures of your receipts. For those accounting majors out there rejoice your years of receipt hoarding has more perks than you thought!
When you go to the store, opt for the printout option for the receipt. You then will need to take a photo of the entire receipt and you will either be awarded in one of three ways.
- Sweepstakes Entries – Most useless reward the odds of winning are so slim I also have never won, luckily very rarely do receipts only offer this reward.
- Coins – This is the currency you will get that you can then convert to PayPal, Amazon Or Visa Card payments. The ratio is 200 coins per $1.
- Spins – There is a slot machine feature in the app you can be awarded spins which can earn a variety of prizes such as 400 coins, $100, shopping sweepstakes, etc the other smaller rewards are also coins. An important note though is you can lose with slots and be awarded nothing at all.
Now let’s discuss how many coins you will be awarded each receipt and it depends.
- Receipts that are under $10 will award you with 5 coins.
- Receipts that are $10-$50 will award you with 10 coins.
- Receipts that are $50-$100 will award you with 15 coins.
- Receipts that are $100+ will award you with 20 coins.
Additionally, every receipt gives you a sweepstake entry and depending on where you shopped it can also award you with spins.
You might be raising your eyebrows at the thought well I have my receipts from the past 9 months or so (looking at you accountants), and I am just going to stop you there. Submitted receipts are not allowed to be older than 2 weeks and no you can’t submit the same receipt multiple times.
Now, it may not seem like much but it’s better than nothing you take a photo of your receipt, collect receipts from your family as well and earn a little bit of money on the side for something you otherwise wouldn’t earn anything from. Combine this with cashback offers such as Drop & Ebates or your in-store credit card and reduce the cost of your shopping trips (or buy yourself something extra the next time you go out).
